Thailand Income Tax Costs Top Earners 2 to 4 Months of Salary Every Year

Thailand Income Tax for High Earners, What Salaries From THB 200,000 to THB 2 Million Pay Each Year and How Many Months of Work That Equals

Thailand income tax is charged on net income rather than on the full salary. A THB 200,000 monthly salary pays THB 437,000 a year, and a THB 2 million monthly salary pays THB 7,859,000. Expressed as months worked for nothing, that runs from 2.2 to 3.9 months. The ceiling on deductions does not rise with income.

What Each Salary Pays, and How Many Months of Work It Equals

All 9 rows assume salary times 12 with no bonus, less the THB 100,000 expense allowance and the THB 60,000 personal allowance, and no other deductions at all:

Monthly salary Top bracket reached Tax for the year Months worked for nothing
THB 200,000 30% THB 437,000 2.2
THB 300,000 30% THB 797,000 2.7
THB 400,000 30% THB 1,157,000 2.9
THB 500,000 35% THB 1,559,000 3.1
THB 600,000 35% THB 1,979,000 3.3
THB 800,000 35% THB 2,819,000 3.5
THB 1,000,000 35% THB 3,659,000 3.7
THB 1,500,000 35% THB 5,759,000 3.8
THB 2,000,000 35% THB 7,859,000 3.9

Why Does a THB 2 Million Salary Work Longer for Free Than a THB 200,000 One?

Because Thai rates are progressive, so the top slice of each persons income meets a different rate. Someone on THB 200,000 a month tops out in the 30% band, while anyone from THB 500,000 a month upward tops out at 35%.

The higher the income, the larger the share sitting in the upper bands. That is why 2.2 months at THB 200,000 becomes 3.9 months at THB 2 million, a gap of 1.7 months.

The Line Into the 35% Band Sits at a THB 430,000 Salary

The 35% band starts above THB 5 million of net income. Add back the THB 100,000 expense allowance and the THB 60,000 personal allowance, divide by 12, and the line lands exactly on a THB 430,000 monthly salary.

Below that, with no other income, the top slice still meets 30%. Above it, every additional baht is taxed at 35% regardless of whether the salary is THB 500,000 or THB 2 million.

What Separates the Top Bracket From the Tax Actually Paid?

The top bracket is the rate applied to the uppermost slice of income, not to the whole amount. Someone on THB 2 million a month does reach 35%, but pays THB 7,859,000 on THB 24 million of income, which is 32.7% of the year.

Someone on THB 200,000 a month reaches 30% and pays THB 437,000 on THB 2.4 million, or 18.2%. The headline bracket always reads higher than the real burden.

Which Deductions Are Available, and What Each One Caps At

3 groups carry most of the weight for high earners: insurance, retirement investment and state measures:

Item Yearly cap Short condition
Life and endowment insurance premiums THB 100,000 Policy term of 10 years or more
Own health insurance premiums THB 25,000 Combined with life insurance, no more than THB 100,000
Pension insurance premiums THB 200,000 No more than 15% of income
RMF funds THB 500,000 No more than 30% of income
Provident fund (PVD) THB 500,000 No more than 15% of wages
Thai ESG funds THB 300,000 No more than 30% of income
Solar rooftop installation THB 200,000 For residential homes, under the stated conditions

The Boxes Add up to THB 1.8 Million, and Only THB 1.1 Million Can Be Used

Add the figures in the table above and the total comes to THB 1,825,000. That number cannot be used, because 2 ceilings sit on top of it.

  • Life and own health insurance
Capped together at THB 100,000, not THB 125,000

  • Retirement savings
RMF, the provident fund and pension insurance count together toward THB 500,000, not THB 500,000 each

Once both ceilings apply, the usable total is THB 100,000 of insurance, plus THB 500,000 of retirement savings, plus THB 300,000 of Thai ESG, plus THB 200,000 of solar rooftop, which comes to THB 1,100,000.

Where Does the THB 725,000 Difference Go?

It does not go anywhere, because it was never there. Each box states the cap for that item on its own and says nothing about adding them together.

The risk is planning around THB 1,825,000, buying to fill every box, and finding that anything above the shared ceiling earns no deduction at all. For someone in the 35% band that is THB 253,750 of tax relief counted on and never received.

The Luxe Addict Take on What Full Deductions Actually Save

Take THB 1,100,000 off the net income at each salary level and recalculate, and the result looks like this:

Monthly salary Tax before deductions Tax after full deductions Reduction
THB 200,000 THB 437,000 THB 150,000 65.7%
THB 500,000 THB 1,559,000 THB 1,187,000 23.9%
THB 1,000,000 THB 3,659,000 THB 3,274,000 10.5%
THB 2,000,000 THB 7,859,000 THB 7,474,000 4.9%

Calculated by the Luxe Addict team, assuming the full THB 1,100,000 of deductions is used and there is no other income

Why Does the Same Set of Deductions Do More for a Smaller Salary?

Because the ceiling is a fixed figure while income has none. Someone on THB 200,000 a month who uses the full THB 1,100,000 drops to THB 1,140,000 of net income, which falls into the 25% band, so the tax bill shrinks by 65.7%.

Someone on THB 2 million a month uses the same amount and still has THB 22,740,000 of net income left, which stays in the 35% band. The bill falls by THB 385,000, or 4.9%, and the months worked for nothing move only from 3.9 to 3.7.

Which Item Should Be Started First to Land Inside This Year?

Deductions for the 2026 tax year count only what is actually paid by 31 December 2026. Solar rooftop installation is the item with the longest lead time, while funds and insurance premiums can be bought on the final day of the year.

Every figure here is calculated from the assumptions stated under each table. It is background information rather than tax advice, and actual deductions depend on amounts paid and on the Revenue Departments conditions.
